Sasha Allen, the openly-transgender female transgender singer who made it to the Live Shows of The Voice, made history in their first appearance. It was the first time in 21 years of The Voice contests Sasha was able to get past the Battle Rounds. Sasha Allen and Jim Newtown, Conn. duo is now in the top 8 of the competition! Sasha declared that he's transgender in their Blind Auditions package. He told Parade.com that it took some time to come up with the idea. Sasha confessed that it was difficult to come up with a choice because he had to show a very sensitive side of himself public in front of millions. He transitioned when he was still in high school. The week before, during fan week, seeing the people's support and their reaction and how that affected people showed it that it was well-worth the risk. The Voice wasn't even around in the moment we performed this song. This was an incredible surprise. We knew the song, and thought of and we came up with concepts to create.
